This collection uses a broad definition of Europe: 51 countries including Russia, Türkiye and Kazakhstan, which have territory in Europe, plus Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Cyprus and Kosovo. Kosovo is not recognised as independent by every state. Europe is not the same as the European Union.

Recognise Nordic cross flags
Denmark has a white cross on red, Sweden a yellow cross on blue, and Finland a blue cross on white. Norway uses a blue cross outlined in white on red; Iceland reverses the red and blue. Start with the background, then look at the cross.
Read tricolours in order
Germany has horizontal black, red and gold stripes. Belgium uses vertical black, yellow and red stripes. Italy and Ireland both start with green, but Italy ends with red and Ireland with orange.
Look beyond EU flags
Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom are also included. Switzerland has a square flag, while the Union Jack combines several crosses. Each picture keeps its own proportions so these differences remain visible.
