This collection covers Africa’s 54 UN member states, including island countries such as Madagascar, Mauritius and Cabo Verde. Dependent territories and the disputed territory of Western Sahara are not included.

Compare green, yellow and red
Mali reads green, yellow, red from left to right; Guinea reverses that order. Senegal resembles Mali but adds a green star to the yellow stripe. Cameroon has a yellow star on a red central stripe.
Learn distinctive symbols
Ghana has a black star in its yellow stripe. Kenya shows a shield and crossed spears, Uganda a crested crane, and Mozambique a detailed emblem. Learn the large colour areas before the smaller details.
Watch for lookalikes
Côte d’Ivoire has orange, white and green stripes; Ireland reverses the order. Chad and Romania have very similar tricolours with different shades of blue, a distinction that can be difficult on small images or different screens.
